The vineyard (on a soil of sandstone and shale) sits atop a plateau between Rochefort sur Loire and Denée facing - on the other side of the Loire - Roche aux Moines and Coulée de Serrant. And this wine certainly bears comparison with its illustrious cousins. Quite a deep gold/straw colour, with a nose of lemon and lime, diesel and lanolin, with further notes of slate, straw and oregano. The palate is essentially dry, yet decidedly rich and generous, with a gently oily texture. Citrus and mineral flavours abound, with notes of honey, orange, spiced/baked apple and quince, with ample acidity and a slightly warming/spicy/minty finish that lingers for an age. Though excellent to drink now, it will nevertheless age gracefully for another 5 to 10 years. A lovely wine!
