From old vines (of course), this wine is from the final pressing of the Morgon cuve - and hence the most concentrated juice, with a little more tannin. After fermentation, the wine spends 3 months in tank, followed by 1 year in used oak barrels (of one previous vintage - bought from a grower in Burgundy). As expected with a wine aged in barrel and with some bottle age, the colour is a little lighter than the standard Morgon - a more translucent core, with a little bricking and fading very gently to the rim. The nose offers complex aromas of little red fruits, forest floor and toasty oak, with subtle notes of orange blossom, mushroom and woodsmoke. The oak is already nicely integrated, with plenty of juicy sweet-sour raspberry, strawberry and cranberry fruit flavours on the palate, all wrapped up in a core of fabulous acidity and fine tannins, with a long, tangy, dry finish. This really is a very classy and seriously elegant Cru Beaujolais, which will age and evolve nicely for at least another 5 years.
