100% Chardonnay, from a small plot based on a mix of clay/limestone and granite soil. A limpid straw-gold colour, it offers aromas of citrus, apple, spice and a real suggestion of wet stone minerality. Richer and more serious than the basic Beaujolais Villages white, there's also a hint of smoke. Quite rich on entry, with a note of honey, rounded, with plenty of soft citrus and spiced apple pie fruit flavours and plenty of acidity and minerality. Finishes very long. From top quality fruit - and top quality winemaking - this is remarkably good white Beaujolais, which would more than hold its own against a top Macon Chardonnay, or perhaps a 1er cru Chablis. |
