| 100 percent Chardonnay, grown on granite/clay-based soil in the hillsides around Beaujeu, 10 kilometres west of Villié-Morgon. A bright, medium-deep straw/gold colour, with surprisingly complex aromas of honey, flowers, lime oil, orange peel, spiced apple pie and oregano, with a suggestion of wet stone minerality. The colour suggests a good deal of skin contact, which shows on the palate, which is equally complex, with a gently oily, medium/rich texture. Mouth-filling, but with a touch of zestiness, a hint of spice, mouth-watering acidity and a very long, tangy, spicy finish. A match for the pricier wines of the nearby Maconnais and Côtes Chalonnaise regions of Burgundy and great value for money. |
