A relatively deep-ish straw/gold colour, indicating plenty of skin contact. It is initially quite muted on the nose, but with time in the glass it opens up to reveal subtle but complex aromas of honeysuckle, orange blossom, peach and lime, with little notes of vanilla, garam masala, lanolin and garrigue herbs lurking in the background. The palate is equally intriguing and complex, with flavours ranging from peach, satsuma and canteloupe melon at the fruity end, through to all manner of nutty, herby, soft spice and mineral/saline flavours at the other. Whilst the texture is medium-rich and gently oily, it also possesses genuine freshness and vitality, with plenty of soft citrus acidity, a hint of grape tannin and a lingering, tangy, slightly minty finish. And although it is far from being a simple quaffer, it makes for a really nice drink on its own. Then again, it has enough body and complexity to match strongly-flavoured fish dishes, paella, lemon-infused roast chicken, or perhaps even pork with a sweet-sour apple sauce. Many a top Southern Rhône white would do well to exhibit such quality, freshness and verve as this wine does. It is lovely now (tasted January 2021), but will probably age and evolve nicely for a few years yet. Another lovely white wine from our dear friend, Guy Vanlancker - and one of the best bargains on our list!
