From the highest vineyards in Faugères (320m) and grown on schist soil, with yields of just 20 hl/ha. Medium-dark purple/red in colour, almost opaque, with a tiny rim. This is the most complete and impressive vintage of Les Bancels, so far. It offers a considerably complex nose - almost sweet-smelling, with bramble, blueberry and redcurrant aromas, with notes of roasted red meat, burning incense, garrigue herbs, damp earth and a marked florality. The palate is equally rich, expansive and ethereal, with bags of bramble and black cherry flavours and myriad savoury, herby, smoky and exotic spice notes, all held together by beautifully ripe tannins and exellent acidity. Altogether, a rich, generous wine - but with genuine elegance - which can be drunk young, or laid down for a few years. Organic. |
