Domaine de Montesquiou's first foray into red wine - and utterly delicious it is! A relatively deep yet completely translucent cherry/blood red core, leading to a narrow rim. The nose offers a veritable pot-pourri of red summer fruits, along with notes of polished old wood, tobacco, leather and forest floor. The palate is delightfully crisp and crammed full of red and black cherry, raspberry and strawberry fruit flavours, with a touch of peppery spice, wrapped around a core of ripe, gentle tannins and juicy/tangy cherry kernel acidity, with a very decent spicy/peppery finish. Though this is far from being a simple quaffer, it is surprisingly easy to drink on its own - even at this young age. That said, it is an ideal summer food wine, and a great match for a variety of dishes such as pizza, lasagne, barbecued red/white meat and vegetable skewers, or even cold cuts and salads.
