40% Syrah, 30% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache and10% Carignan, aged in barrique for 1 year. The nose offers a classic Languedoc pot-pourri of black and red fruit and garrigue herb aromas, with myriad notes of bramble, cassis, redcurrant, roasted red meat, curry spices and polished leather, with subtle hints of damp earth, polished old wood and a welcome hint of volatile acidity. The palate offers all of those things and more, with underlying exotic spice and herb notes and once again a streak of gently saline minerality. All of its sweet-sour, fruity-savoury, herby-spicy elements linger long in the mouth and combine seamlessly around a core of lapsang tea-like tannins and mouth-watering soft citrus acidity. This really is a massively complex and truly elegant wine which, for me, captures the essence of the finest Languedoc red wine. At 4 years of age (at the time of tasting) it is of course approachable now, but also has the capacity to age and evolve into something even more compelling and delicious over the next 5 to 8 years. A bona fide Languedoc classic. Organic/biodynamic.
