Medium-deep translucent cherry red, with a narrow rim. As soon as you stick your nose in the glass, you are transported to a warm summer's eve in the south of France - there's a veritable pot-pourri of blackberry, red cherry and floral aromas, with further notes of leather, damp earth, woodsmoke, freshly-baked bread and a whiff of older oak. There's also a hint of volatile acidity, which adds genuine lift and complexity. The palate offers myriad sweet-sour black and red fruit flavours, with plenty of tannic grip, juicy cherry kernel acidity and, again just a touch of volatility, all of which leads to a long, tangy, peppery-spicy finish. This really is a lovely wine, which - thanks in no small part to its sweet-sour fruit and that lick of volatile acidity - puts me in mind of a young Chateau Musar (i.e. the younger reds, rather than the "grand vin"). As a Musar fan myself, need I say more? An absolute cracker of a wine, and a bargain, at the price. Organic.
