| 50% Mourvedre, aged for 1 year in oak barrels, plus 25% each of Carignan and Syrah, aged in stainless steel vats. A relatively youthful, translucent, medium blood red colour, with a narrow rim. The nose is hugely complex, with a mix of red and black fruit and desiccated orange aromas, along with all manner of herb and exotic spices, leather, damp earth, mocha and toasty oak. The palate is equally complex and compelling, with red fruits taking the lead over the black, again with myriad herb, spice and orange notes, a touch of warming eau de vie and even a hint of bitter dark chocolate. And yet, even with all of those different flavours and warm, earthy southern France textures, it really is a rather elegant wine, with ripe fruit, fine tannins and ample cherry kernel acidity combining in an almost ethereal, sweet-sour mouth-feel. Did I say drink now to 2030? Well, yes, but why wait that long, when it is so lovely now? A stunner! |
