Almost opaque dark cherry/blood red in colour, with a narrow rim. Full of rich bramble, black cherry and plum aromas, with notes of forest floor/damp earth, cigar box, spices and herbs, with a cloak of  gently toasted oak. The palate is initially quite showy and rich, but with an excellent balance between tannin and acidity, with the oak prominent to begin with, but quickly subsiding and integrating, to reveal a lovely wine, full of southern charm, with rich, concentrated red and black fruit flavours - not overtly sweet, but rich, figgy, chocolatey, with an underlying freshness and vitality redolent of red fruits (raspberry, redcurrant, red cherry). Ideally, it needs a year or two in bottle to fully integrate, but as one of the estate's flagship wines, it already shows signs of getting into its stride. Long, warming, fresh, beautifully balanced and considerably complex, it continues to reveal extra nuances and layers, even after more than 3 days of being open (a classic example of why I always do the "next day" test) - a wine of genuine complexity and substance. It's good now - though it demands food - but will age and evolve over the coming years into something really, *really* good.
