Medium-dark black cherry colour. This is quite similar in structure to earlier vintages, but immediately more approachable. It is initially a touch meaty/farmyardy on the nose, but this blows off to reveal an abundance of ripe bramble and black cherry fruit, with hints of curry spices, new leather and tobacco, both on the nose and palate, with grippy, tea-like tannins and cherry skin/kernel acidity leading to a long, tangy, sweet-sour finish. It isn't hugely complex, but it isn't a simple quaffer either and - despite the fact that it is already delicious - will undoubtedly age nicely for a few years. |
