The Roussanne and Piquepoul are fermented traditionally, whilst the Marsanne sits on its skins for 15 days, resulting in what is known as an "orange wine”. This adds not only a little extra depth to the hue of the wine, but also an extra dimension to the aromas and flavours. With a nose of honeysuckle, peach/apricot, wild herbs and fennel, it really does show a lot of complexity for a wine so young. As you might expect, it has a relatively rich and gently oily texture, courtesy of the 'orange' aspect of the Marsanne, but there is also an underlying freshness that comes through on the palate, with a zesty/juicy lemony tang, a certain spiciness and impressive length, not to mention genuine saline minerality. It certainly isn't a glugger, but it is a brilliant food wine, which grows in the glass, and indeed get's better after 2 or 3 days. A fabulous example of how good Languedoc whites can be.
