A bright, limpid medium cherry red colour at the core, leading to a narrow, gently bricking rim. The nose offers a delightfully complex array of red berry and cherry fruit and herb/spice aromas, accompanied by subtle notes of desiccated orange peel, sandalwood, polished leather and forest floor. For a Pinot Noir grown so far south of its traditional home, it is remarkably restrained and, well..... Burgundian! The palate offers myriad raspberry, redcurrant, cherry and soft citrus flavours, with a hint of peppery spice and mineral earthiness. The tannins are gently rustic and nicely grippy, and there is plenty of mouth-watering cherry kernel acidity, whilst the finish is long, juicy, cool and slightly minty. In many ways, this is actually more Burgundian than the previous (2014) vintage, insofar as it is slightly lighter and more ethereal, with only that touch of southern warmth and spice giving away its origin. Another beautifully crafted and really delicious wine!
