A really quite dark red/black colour, with a narrow rim, which might suggest a rather forbidding wine - but not a bit of it. A riot of black cherry, cassis, bramble and orange peel aromas greet the nose, with further notes of pencil shavings, peppermint, old leather and damp earth, making for something really quite complex and almost - dare I say it - Claret-like... but in a good way - trust me, there's nothing "green" or mouth-puckering about this wine! The palate shows a good amount of grip, with bags of spicy, rich, ripe bramble and blackcurrant fruit, accompanied by ripe (and surprisingly fine) tannins, countered by crunchy, cherry kernel acidity and a persistent, spicy/tangy, sweet-sour finish. A lovely wine, which is perfect to drink now, but which will undoubtedly age for a few years yet. And great value for money.
