The majority of this wine is from the 2020 vintage, but augmented with a small amount of wine from a "solera" of older vintages - namely, 2001, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2012-19 - aged in an old demi-muid (600 litre barrel). Each year, a certain amount of the aged wine is drawn from the solera and added into the blend for the new wine, whilst the solera is refreshed/topped-up with the new wine. The nose is simply glorious - a riot of fresh bramble, cherry and blackcurrant aromas, with notes of old leather, curry spices, forest floor, fine eau de vie and a hint of licorice. The palate is similarly crammed with fresh and soused red and black fruit flavours, brimming with youthful vigour, yet with a welcome hint of maturity from the dash of older wine. The tannins are nicely chewy and robust, whilst the acidity is - surprise, surprise - mouth-watering and tangy. The overall effect is a full-bodied, concentrated, yet really elegant wine, which has the structure to age nicely for a good few years, although there really is no need to wait. A brilliantly quirky and really delicious wine..
